Game Summary (Note: This review is based off of only a
partial play through of the game.)
No More Heroes 2 takes place three years after the first
game. In the first No More Heroes, players played as Travis Touchdown, working
their way up to become the number one assassin in the United Assassin’s
Association. In No More Heroes 2, players once again play as Travis, but at the
beginning of the game you are told that through a series of events Travis is no
longer ranked number one, but rather 51st. Also, not long after the
game has started, Travis’s best friend is murdered and beheaded thanks to an
order given by the current number one ranked assassin, Jasper Batt Jr. Thus,
the main objective of No More Heroes 2 is for Travis to work his way back up to
being the number one assassin which will also allow for him to take revenge for
the murder of his best friend.
The way the game is set up is that there is a city map in
which Travis can choose options of what he would like to do. There is the
option to train, shop, do side-jobs or begin a mission against a ranked
assassin. The side jobs were actually quite fun in that they played out like an
old 8-bit Nintendo game. The main missions, however, used current Wii graphics.
In the main missions that I played, Travis would fight through many enemies
leading up to a confrontation with a ranked assassin. Once the assassin was
defeated, Travis would take over their rank.
What Parents Need to
Know
Violence
No More Heroes 2 is probably the most violent game I have
ever personally played on the Nintendo Wii. Travis uses a beam katana (very
similar to a lightsaber) with which he is able to slice people in half or
decapitate them with. Lots of blood sprays.
One assassin, Nathan Copeland, has
two women sitting with him who are wearing nothing but bikini’s when Travis
walks into the room. At the start of the battle, Nathan throws both women at
Travis and then attacks him. The women are caught in the middle of the
encounter and both are decapitated.
Language
There is a lot of bad language in No More Heroes 2 including
frequent use of the F-word among others.
Sexual Content
The ESRB says that part of the reason No More Heroes 2 is
rated M is because of partial nudity. This is because there is a short anime
parody called Bizarre Jelly 5 which can be unlocked in which some
girls transform into superheroes, but as part of the transformation process
there are some quick scenes of some of their behinds and breasts. The breasts,
however, do not show the nipples which is why it is labeled partial nudity.
The camera angle in the game will sometimes allow the player
to focus in on one particular character’s bra and panties.
One character in the game refers to killing as bringing the
same feeling of ecstasy as sex.
Spiritual Content
I did not encounter any spiritual content in the portion of
No More Heroes that I played.
Reviewer’s Thoughts
I did not play very much of No More Heroes 2 before I
encountered a lot of content that I felt parents would want to know about.
Generally speaking the Wii is a great system for families, but this is one
title that in my opinion should only be played by adults.
