Summary
Mario
Kart Wii brings the famous Mario Kart racing franchise
to the Nintendo Wii. The
gameplay is
pretty much the same as past Mario Kart games with Mario and his
friends
competing against each other in a variety of races and combat arenas.
There are
a few nice additions to this installment however.
First
of all, it should come as no surprise that Mario Kart
Wii can be played with motion sensors.
The game comes with a steering wheel that the Wii-Mote
fits nicely into
allowing the player to play the game as if they were actually driving a
Kart.
(Additional steering wheels can be purchased for about $15 each.) There is also the option,
however, to use a GameCube
controller or to use the Wii-Mote and Nun-chuck attachment. By using the Wii-Mote with
the steering wheel
or the Nun-chuck the player can also perform more tricks with their
Kart.
The
next welcome addition to Mario Kart Wii is the ability
to race using motorbikes in addition to karts.
And a third welcome addition is the ability to compete
online against
your friends. There
is also some other
nice features such as some new characters to unlock and the inclusion
of 16
tracks from past Mario Kart games as well as 16 new tracks.
If
you own a Wii and you are fan of the Mario Kart series or
even just a racing fan, you will most likely find Mario Kart to be a
lot of fun
that the whole family can enjoy.
What Parents Need to Know
Violence
There
are power-ups that you can collect and throw at other
racers such as turtle shells to crash other racers, squid ink to blind
other
racers and lightning to shrink other racers.
All in good Mario style fun.
Language
There
is no bad language in this game.
Sexual
Content
There
is no nudity or inappropriate sexual content in this
game.
Spiritual
Content
One
character that can be unlocked is King Boo.
He is a ghost, but he is not scary or
demonic.
A Child’s
Perspective: Justin age 11 says Mario Kart Wii is a lot of
fun. He likes
that there is a steering wheel to make it feel like you are actually
driving
the kart.
Reviewer's Thoughts
Mario
Kart Wii is a lot of fun. It can be enjoyed by the whole
family and I
would have no problem recommending Mario Kart Wii to anyone of any age.
