Game
Description:
In the true fashion
of the LEGO franchise, this game is nearly as much fun to play,
especially on
the Wii, as the actual pieces themselves. Keeping with the original
series of
movies, the player fills the role of any number of major or minor
characters
from Hans Solo to Darth Maul to the cute little Ewoks.
Game play can be
cooperative but one person can easily work their way through the levels
by
changing characters during play. All six episodes are accounted for,
divided
into six chapters each complete with bonus levels and extras like
colored bricks and
“mini-kit” canisters that when found allow the player to buy special
characters, items and open more challenge levels for extra play.
Three modes allow
for replay appeal as the player can choose from Story Mode, and
Free Play plus an additional play mode that takes the player
through all the
major points of a level in one session.
While there are
minor differences between platforms, the most notable is the
motion-sensitive
input on the Nintendo Wii, which allows the player to truly play the
part of a
lightsaber wielding Jedi through the use of the Wii’s controller.
What
Parents Need to Know
Violence:
LEGO
Star Wars models the iconic movie series complete with
blasters, thermal detonators and the universally recognized lightsaber.
As
such, in game characters can be dashed into a bazillion pieces. Aside
from the
explosion of LEGO pieces, any violence is cartoonish, made all the more
humorous by the kid-friendly in-game cinematics.
Language:
No bad language.
Sexual Content:
No sexual content.
Spiritual Content:
The only notable spiritual content would be the
epic struggle between
good and evil through the use of the Force to manipulate objects within
the
game. Although the objectives are set from the start, players can
choose
between Imperial, Rebel, Jedi or Sith characters and use the abilities
attributed to those classes (ie: Jedi force vs. Darkside force. Some
extras
cannot be obtained without using the Darkside force.)
Misc:
This game
encourages side-by-side cooperative play, which makes it a great venue
for
parent-child play. With
36 levels, extra
bonus levels, challenges and the ability to replay as any of a 160
characters,
this game is not likely to bore anyone who has had a chance to play.
A Child’s
Perspective:
Trenton,
age 9,
found this game thoroughly exciting and challenging. He especially
enjoyed the
Wii version with the lightsaber attachment for the controller.
Reviewers Thoughts:
Finding a
game that
still retains it appeal for replay as well as being something kids and
adults
thoroughly enjoy is hard to come by. LEGO Star Wars easily hits the
high marks
making it a worthwhile buy. And for those who are looking for a great
Wii game,
the glowing lightsaber or “light sword” attachments add a whole other
element
to game play.
