Description:
YO JOE! Almost
as familiar as the sage like advice of
“Knowing is half the battle.” This
movie
adaptation does true justice to the Joe Corp.
This game is based in the very beginning of the GI Joe
legacy. The elite
members of GI Joe begin to discover
that there is a mysterious group called Cobra that is out to rule the
world. Their
mission is to stop Cobra’s
plan and discover who the key leaders are of the organization.
There are sixteen
playable characters that unlock as the gamer progresses through each
level. Fans can
play as Duke, Scarlett,
Snake Eyes and others throughout the GI Joe adventures.
Each of the characters is classified into
three groups: Commandos, Combat Soldiers and Heavys.
Each one has a specific talent and abilities
that will need to be used in order to advance through certain parts of
the
levels. The gamer
must also choose two characters
to play in each level; one they will control and one the computer will
control. A fun
feature of the gameplay
is that the gamer will be able to switch seamlessly from one character
to the
next.
The story mode is
not totally linear meaning that you can have a bit of freedom to choose
which
levels to play. The
gamer, however, must
complete certain levels to advance into the bonus missions which are
necessary
to completing the story mode. The
story
mode continues where the movie left off but it is not necessary to see
the
movie to enjoy the game.
What Parents Need to
Know
Violence:
This game is played
from a third person point of view.
There
is no blood or gore in this game.
The
bodies of the enemies disappear fast and are not left lying around the
level. The game
revolves around military
based weapons and hand-to-hand combat violence.
Sometimes the Joes are fighting robots, sometimes it is
humans, though
it is hard to tell the difference.
Language:
The only
inappropriate word I heard was Dammit.
It can be heard about five times throughout
the game.
Sexual
Content:
Some of
the female characters have tight fitting clothing.
Spirituality:
There is no spirituality
content in this game.
Misc.
Something parents
might enjoy, which is a rarity in the video game world, is the public
service
announcements from the original G.I. Joe 80’s cartoon.
These videos which are unlocked through gameplay
teach the gamer how to be safe and help others.
They are worth the watching for sure.
Reviewer's
Thoughts:
I enjoyed
playing
all the different characters in the game.
The story line was great and gets any person up to speed on the GI Joe
story. The variations between the
characters ability allowed me to have a little strategy going into each
level. It was good to have to consider
who I was selecting before I went into a mission. The
characters remain true to their origins
and go a long way in making the game fun.
I would recommend this game as a long term rental; unless you grew up
with GI Joe then I would recommend it as a purchase. With the
exception of some minor language and
mild violence, it is very clean in content as well.
