Game Description:

Kick it into high gear with Dirt 2, a racing game that is as fun and challenging as the real thing. Parent and child or friends can race side by side or face off on any number of specialized challenges from power sliding to “last man standing.”

Dirt 2 combines the excitement of rally sport racing to Baja and off-road truck racing. Choose from a wide variety of vehicles like the Ickler Baja truck, the Subaru WRX Rally car, or Ford F-150 for off-road. Placing higher unlocks body kits, cars, and extras increasing customization during gameplay. Multiple track styles from pavement to dirt and off-road broaden the range of race opportunities including mirrored and reverse options to up the challenge.

Pull it all together and you have a “can’t lose” racing game for the entire family.

What Parents Need to Know

Violence:

No violence other than expected vehicular collisions and wrecks. Drivers and spectators are never seen hurt or killed.

Language:

Some mild language can be heard in some of the lyrics (such as bastard).

Sexual Content:

No sexual content.

Spiritual Content:

No spiritual content.

Misc:

Each platform offers its own unique playability. The platform on which I played, the Wii, offered the option to use the Wii Wheel, standard Wii remote or in conjunction with the Nunchuck. With the DS, players can draw their own icons or connect with three other players for multiplayer action. The PS3, Xbox 360, PC and PSP formats also offer their own distinctive extras. Be sure to check out all the options for your chosen system.

Reviewers Thoughts:

If you are prone to comparing racing games to either Mario Kart or NASCAR, think again. Dirt 2 offers enough of the technical aspects of a pro-style racing game while paired with creativity and customization to remain an excellent bridge between party-style racing games focused on walloping your friends and true-to-life race simulations.

Due to the realistic approach that Codemasters brought to this game, I suggest Dirt 2 for the recommended age range of 10 and up. While younger children can play, the lack of extravagant whirligigs might not hold their attention.
